ABOUT
Blue Kassette...
...was a 4-piece indie/alternative band hailing from Manchester, UK, comprised of (From left to right) Tom Kirby (Guitar), Josh Meenaghan (Drums, Backing Vocals), Jon Upton (Lead Vocals, Guitar) and Mike Etherington (Bass, Backing Vocals). The four had been playing in bands together as early as 2009, but the iteration that became Blue Kassette started around 2012. Originally, the band went under the moniker of 'The Riviera', but due to band name clashes with a previously established Manchester band, they underwent the change to become Blue Kassette.

With 9 single releases, 4 music videos and radio play on BBC Introducing, the band had developed itself into an underground indie power-house, likened to the sound of bands such as White Lies, Editors and The National. The band's demo for 'Tonight' caught the eye of Merseyside team Sugarhouse Productions, who went on to record all 9 of their singles. The single 'Humble' was the bands first release featuring on a compilation album for Laboratory Records. With connections to the production company, EY3 Media, the band enlisted their help to shoot 4 music videos for their 4 biggest releases and numerous promotional videos. During the period of 2013 - 2016 the band performed rigorously up and down the country, performing at festivals up in the North East, to shows down in London.

A poignant moment for the band was a show supporting Ezra Furman & The Girlfriends up in Middlesborough, only weeks after Ezra's live performance on Later With Jules Holland. In the sweltering summer heat, the band performed to a sold out crowd in the Westgarth Social Club.

Due to a number of reasons the band decided to part ways in the winter of 2016, performing their last gig at Night & Day cafe, a venue which they all had fond memories of, perfoming some of their first gigs there and also featuring as the shoot of the music video for the single 'Struck To Reflect Her.'

This website is here as a testament to what the band achieved and although they are no longer together, the guys remain good friends, proud of what they accomplished together.
